PS Star Studio
Patrick Kennedy |
A native of Cazenovia, New York, Patrick studied art at SUNY Oswego which included a semester of study in Pisa, Italy. He studied drawing under Dr. George Stark, design under Tom Eckersley and painting under Al Bremmer.
Patrick moved to San Diego in 1976 and has been basking in the California sun ever since. Patrick's contemporary art pieces are quite geometric, and have a tremendous amount of depth and detail. When asked to describe the origin of his ideas, Patrick tells us; "My art is generallly a study of the relationship of the hard lines and angles found in nature. I suppose you could say I'm a 'Neo'-Constructivist". The Constructivist Movement, founded in 1913 by Vladimir Tatlin, was developed from Cubism, Italian Futurism and Suprematism in Russia as well as Neo-Plasticism in Holland, and the Bauhaus School in Germany. Constructivism is used to define non-representational relief construction, sculpture, kinetics, and painting. It was one the first movements to adopt a strictly non-objective subject matter. The movement’s work was mainly geometric and precisely composed, sometimes through mathematics and measuring tools. Constructivists favored the basic shapes of squares, rectangles, circles and triangles. They used an array of materials including wood, celluloid, nylon, Plexiglas, tin, cardboard and wire which was generally welded or glued together. The term “Neo-Constructivism” reflects the natural progression of the movement; a study of the increasingly complex and diverse shapes and materials in the modern world.
